The Gee-Gees have returned from Pennsylvania this past weekend with a few injuries, but as the victors of the Keystone Classic. We were blessed to get to play without the rain this time, and the team was so excited that there was no hail that the wind didn't even get anyone down!
The Gee-Gees played 7 games this weekend. Games were pushed back to noon, which gave us a much-needed 1:45pm start time (thank goodness! after arriving at our hotel at 2:30am). Although it wasn't raining, it was still pretty cold and very windy. Our first game on Saturday was the toughest, being played against Cornell - a long time competitor in our conference and region who beat us at Sectionals last year. Key players that we made sure to match up on were Sterling Dumas and Jackie Booth, both of whom handled the disc well in the wind and had the offense running through them. The next two games, though less challenging, were a great experience and gave us a chance to work through some of our offenses in the wind.
Final scores on Saturday
9 - 7 (Ottawa - Cornell)
10 - 1 (Ottawa - Yale)
15 - 4 (Ottawa - Pittsburgh)
Sunday's games were played against RICE, Ohio State, Tufts (whom we had been watching the day before, as they were the first seeded team at the tournament), and Penn State. The wind started to die down by the afternoon on Sunday, which meant a change in strategy for most teams - Both Tufts and Penn State had a lot of athletes on their team, and after looked to huck it long to their taller players. This gave the Gee-Gees a chance to alter our defensive strategies throughout the day.
Final scores on Sunday
13 - 6 (Ottawa - Rice)
13 - 2 (Ottawa - Ohio State)
14 - 7 (Ottawa - Tufts)
11 - 6 (Ottawa - Penn State)
